the great outdoors

Okay guys - here's the proof I went camping! I did, I really did! : )

Friends chillin' around the campfire.

My hubby makin me some coffee in our percolator - I don't know exactly what a "percolator" is, but it made the water hot...so I guess it's technically a kettle. (And yes, every time I saw it, I said, "It's time for the percolator." Don't judge.)

Our friends' adorable pup.

More campfire hang time. This picture at least proves there were tents, although I didn't manage a pic of our tiny tent.

I tried to get a picture of the stars. This in no way covers the beauty of the many stars we got to see.

The lake.

My hubby, in a very Jack Johnson-style set up.

The boats in the marina.

So there you go! Not a lot, but you get the idea. There were campfires and tents and s'mores. I have a tan now. We swam and hiked. It was perfectly lovely : )

weekenders

Can we just stop, rewind, and go back to this weekend? It was fantastic. Today, not so much.

Anyways, I can't wait to post pictures and tell you about my camping adventures, but I just don't have the energy to do it today, so instead, I share with you my sponsors, some familiar, some new, in this sidebar to the left! Go check these blogs out! These ladies are fabulous!

Back to our regularly scheduled posts tomorrow : )

favorites friday

Favorite things about this Friday?

- Got out of work early - YES!

- Got some awesome deals at Old Navy last night - now I need to return them for new sizes - but I'm still happy. (P.S. $4-6 tees and tanks online and in stores. Go. Now.)

- Hearing from lots of people about button swaps! I'm excited to work with some new blogs. If you want to swap, email me at JennPSP@gmail.com.

- We are going CAMPING this weekend with our church! I am so excited. I'm not super into the outdoorsy, so I'm grateful we're not going all out - like without bathrooms and stuff. But I will be sleeping in a tent! So it counts! (Even if I'll be on an air mattress.)

Have a fantastic Memorial Day weekend!

international festival

So I've been dying to share with you my pictures from a local international festival this weekend (but there just hasn't been time)! The colors, the traditional outfits, the music, and the food - all amazing. Enjoy!

My only regret is I didn't get a churro from the churro truck.

Yeah, those are Vikings. Celebrating their Viking heritage.

It's a wallaby! (I think.)

Plus, I got to have a mango on a stick. This had to be documented. For the record, it was delicious.

Also, it's almost June. Which is a little confusing, because I'm pretty sure yesterday was January. Where did these past few months go? What is happening to 2012?

Anyway, I'd love to invite you to be a sponsor for PSP! How I do sponsoring is pretty typical: we swap buttons. For at least a month, and then we'll see what happens. I also hope to open it up for more opportunities for guest posts as well. I request (but don't require) that you follow PSP to swap.

And that's it! Email me at JennPSP@gmail.com if you're interested.

wedding wednesday: the engagement story

03/27/2010

Ladies and gentlemen, today I give you our engagement story:

It was a lovely day in March. For a couple months, I had seriously been trying to figure out if I was anywhere near ready to get engaged. We hadn't talked about it, but I had been talking with some close friends. After one date with him, I finally decided James was The One, and I was ready. (But that's another story in itself.)

On that day, we had planned to be there to witness two of our friends start dating, which is a big deal among our church family - almost as big as an engagement ; ) - and then we were going to go celebrate with them at dinner that night.

Before that, though, I got together with one of our mutual good friends and told her I was ready. I hadn't told a lot of people at this point, but I definitely wanted to get her advice. She encouraged me to be patient, but that she thought he was on the same page as me.

A few hours later, he picked me up from my house. On the way to see our friends start dating, he was acting a little funny - at one point, he told me, in a sentimental sort of way, that I was one of his best friends. I brushed it off, trying to stay patient : )

We went to a garden at his former university, where I kept looking for our friends, hoping we hadn't missed the big moment. There were some people we didn't know doing a photo shoot (they were wearing prom dresses or something), and instead of leading us away from them, James led us towards them. I felt really awkward and tried to tug him away, but we passed the photo shoot and went to a specific spot, right next to a bridge and a creek.

It was set up with little tealight candles in red paper cups, with a red blanket laid out on a boulder and a red rose on it. I remember saying, "Oh, that's so sweet! Jermaine set this up for Erin?" And then he said, "What if I told you this was for you?" And my heart dropped.

He led me to the rock and had me sit down. I noticed a couple of friends in the bushes, trying to film with a digital camera. My heart was racing and my knees felt like jello. I was shaking. If you were to watch the video, you would see me keep covering my face with my hands and brushing my hair out of my face.

James pulled out a poem he had written and read it to me. At one point in the poem, he got down on one knee, and then took out the ring and asked me to be his wife.

Of course I said yes, and then our friends came out to congratulate us, and then we walked back to the car and drove to a restaurant, where my family was waiting. They were supposed to come into town the day before, but of course they had planned to be there for the engagement. I couldn't eat a thing at the restaurant.

Then there was a small engagement party at my apartment. A few of my good friends from my school, three hours away, came to be there for the party and to spend the night.

I loved the way he planned it, I love that I was completely surprised, and I love that memory.

guest post + songs stuck in my head

Hey everyone! Today I have a guest post - ten things I've learned in my first year(s) of marriage - on Casey's amazing blog, The Leaflet. She is super sweet, strong in her faith, her honesty is refreshing, and her posts are fun and encouraging! And, as she says in the post, we're pretty much blog twins. Go over, check out her blog (leave me some love, too, if you'd like!), and don't forget to wish her a happy one year anniversary!

Also, just for fun, here's a few songs that are on REPEAT in my brain and unfortunately on the radio as well:

Brokenhearted - Karmin

Feel So Close - Calvin Harris

Give Your Heart a Break - Demi Lovato

I won't post Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know", because it's just annoying how often it's on the radio now. Anyone else feel me on that?

Till tomorrow!
